Take A Tour

Tsingy of Bemaraha and Morondava

The earth is rich in partially amazing and unique landscapes and creatures. A variety of the most impressive representatives from both categories can be found on the island of Madagascar. Here on the so-called "Red Island," you have the opportunity to experience fascinating adventures and breathtaking natural spectacles. Some of them we would like to present to you on the following journey through Madagascar. We offer an exciting mix of adventure and nature experience on this tour – where you can encounter lemurs and experience the spectacular landscape of the Tsingy of Bemaraha, which has now been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site. But that's not all. We allow you to travel on this tour according to your individual wishes and preferences. In this sense, we offer you the opportunity to modify the presented tour according to your personal preferences. If you wish to do so or need additional information, please feel free to contact us. The tour we present to you is like a trip to a completely different world, providing you with extraordinary and incomparable experiences, but also requiring careful planning. Furthermore, the Tsingy of Bemaraha are not even reachable during certain times of the year without an excellent all-terrain vehicle. Even from May to November, there may be occasional restrictions that require changes to certain areas or sections of the tour. Therefore, we consider it highly advisable to plan such a diverse and exciting tour in advance. Day 1 - Arrival in Antananarivo

Lemurs, baobab trees, rainforests, deserts, hiking, and diving: Madagascar is a dream destination for outdoor enthusiasts - half the fun is experiencing all these incredible attractions. Once the visa formalities are completed, you will be greeted by one of my staff members holding a sign, and the journey can begin. The first stop is always Villa Sibylle, a beautiful property where we can discuss the trip together and tailor the itinerary to the guests' wishes and expectations. Enjoy dinner and overnight stay at Villa Sibylle.

Day 2: From the Malagasy capital to Antsirabe

Kick off the morning of day 2 of your extraordinary journey through Madagascar with a drive south from the capital. Your first stop is planned in Behenjy for some indulgence in gastronomic delights. Behenjy boasts one of the most renowned restaurants in all of Madagascar, where you can sample various specialties featuring duck liver. Next, continue towards the day's destination, Antsirabe, with another planned stop in Ambatolampy along the way. Here, you can visit an aluminum foundry where the famous aluminum pots, known throughout Madagascar, are crafted under challenging conditions. By evening, you'll arrive in Antsirabe, often referred to as the industrial heart of the highlands. You'll be welcomed at Chambres du voyageur in Antsirabe and treated to a gala dinner before retiring for the night.

Day 3: From Miandrivazo to Morondava

Miandrivazo is the next major stop on your itinerary and also one of the hottest places in all of Madagascar. It is essential to ensure that you always have enough drinking water. The drive to Miandrivazo is very diverse, heading west and passing through the Bongolava Mountains. The road to the capital of the Menabe region, Morondava, is well-maintained. We arrive early enough at the famous Baobab Avenue, then continue on to the hotel.

Day 4: Heading to Bekopaka

You leave Morondava behind and are picked up again by the 4WD vehicle to be taken to Belo-sur-Tsiribihina for the ferry. There, you first dine at the restaurant called Mad Zebu. This place is no longer a hidden gem, but well known throughout Madagascar for its delicious cuisine. Afterwards, you continue heading north, with the dirt road your car drives on being a bit bumpy. You arrive in Bekopaka, the entrance to the Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park, in the evening and stay overnight at the Olympe d‘Bemaraha hotel.

Day 5: The Small Tsingy and a Boat Ride on the Manombolo River Awaits

Before heading to the grand Tsingy of Bemaraha, you'll have a chance to explore the small Tsingy. The trek through the small, fascinating rock formations that jut out from the ground resembles a stroll through a labyrinth and proves to be incredibly captivating. Among the formations, you'll discover rare Pachypodiums and different Euphorbia plants. Various animals also make appearances during this two to three-hour tour. You can choose how long you want to stay here, as we customize the tour to your preferences. After enjoying lunch at a fine restaurant by the river, another highlight awaits you: a boat will take you upstream on the Manombolo River. Here, you'll encounter numerous sacred burial sites of the legendary indigenous people of Madagascar, the Vazimba. You'll then return to Olympe d’Bemaraha for the night.

Day 6: Exploring the magnificent Tsingy de Bemaraha

To make the most of your day at the world-renowned National Park Tsingy de Bemaraha, you will set off at around five in the morning. The trek into the park begins at six in the morning, after receiving instructions on how to properly use the climbing gear. Within just an hour of walking, you will see why this climbing gear is essential for your excursion, as you navigate through narrow caves and steep cliffs to reach a well-designed via ferrata trail. This trail is equipped with stairs, suspension bridges, guide ropes, and more, leading you to the most breathtaking viewpoints in the park. You will likely never have experienced such a mesmerizing panorama before. The exact route through the park will depend on your individual fitness level, as there are five different paths to explore the park. At the end of the day, you can relax at the Olympe d’Bemaraha lodge for a well-deserved rest.

Day 7: Heading back to Morondava

After a few eventful days exploring the magnificent Tsingy formations, our tour is coming to an end. Early in the morning, we will drive southwards and cross the river after lunch in Belo-sur-Tsiribihina. The journey continues by car, leaving the dry forest of the west coast behind. You should arrive at the Baobab Avenue just in time for sunset. The giant baobab trees cast fascinating shadows in the setting sun, turning a beautiful shade of red. After this spectacle, we will continue on to Morondava, where you will spend the night in an attractive beachfront bungalow.

Day 8: The (preliminary) end of the tour

Today marks the end of the tour. You have the option to continue on further adventures with us or travel back to Antananarivo and fly to Europe from there. Depending on your flight time, you can explore the city of Morondava a bit before moving on. Continue south along the west coast or from Antananarivo to Andasibe and Ankanin’Nofy in the east. Enjoy your journey!
