7-Day Vanilla Coast Tour – From Ankify to Sambava

Day 1: The Journey Begins in Ankify

Whether you have already spent time on the Perfume Island of Nosy Be or are starting this tour fresh, your day begins with a morning departure from Ankify.

You will start by navigating through a slightly challenging track, but our experienced driver will do their best to make the journey as comfortable as possible for you. After a challenging day's drive through a diverse and uniquely beautiful landscape, you will arrive at Camp Tattersalli near Daraina in the late afternoon.

Your overnight stay is planned at the camp itself.

Day 2: Continuing to Sambava

Before heading to Sambava, known as the capital of vanilla, you will visit the Bekaroaka Reserve. Here, you can observe various lemurs and get a closer look at exciting reptiles and amphibians.

To fully appreciate the fascinating nature of this reserve and have plenty of time for taking numerous photos, the drive to Sambava is planned for early afternoon.

In Sambava, you can look forward to a delicious dinner and a comfortable overnight stay in a carefully selected hotel.

Day 3: Plantations and the city of Antalaha

On the third day, you can start by enjoying a relaxing breakfast as the journey is scheduled for late morning.

The first stop is a visit to exciting and extensive spice and vanilla plantations. Learn why the Vanilla Coast is called the Vanilla Coast and take a look at the fascinating cultivation of this uniquely exotic spice.

After lunch, continue on to Antalaha, where you can take an extensive city tour and explore the surrounding area.

The car will then take you back to Sambava, where overnight accommodation is planned.

Day 4: Heading to Andapa

If you wish, you can explore the surrounding area of Sambava on today's day, before heading up to the mountains to Andapa by car after lunch. There, you will not only enjoy a spectacular view, but also be warmly welcomed by the Soaland Chalet.

Day 5: Visit to the Antenetiambo Private Reserve

On this day, you will depart early in the morning after a light breakfast snack, around six o'clock.

You will head to the six kilometers away Matsobe, where the Antenetiambo Private Reserve awaits you.

There, you can embark on a day hike accompanied by the owners of the reserve themselves.

During this hike, you can enjoy numerous insights into the nature of the East Coast and soak in the diverse facets of the impressive landscape.

Afterwards, you will return to Andapa, where your overnight stay is planned for the evening.

Day 6: Returning to Sambava

Today you will be traveling back to Sambava, the main hub for vanilla trade in the region.

You will have the entire day to explore and choose activities that interest you the most.

You may consider visiting the Sacred Lake Antahomaro, home to numerous crocodiles. Alternatively, you can tour one of the largest coconut plantations in the world or visit a vanilla processing facility to learn more about the production process.

In any case, there are plenty of opportunities to purchase high-quality vanilla pods at attractive prices.

Day 7: Departure from Sambava

Today marks the end of the tour and you will either say goodbye as you head towards Antananarivo, where the international airport awaits you, or you can continue your adventure with a direct extension tour that will reveal even more of the fascinating secrets of Madagascar.
