Happy New Year – Welcome to the Year 2021!
In Madagascar, life goes on without guests and without lockdown.
Hope for Normalization
Concrete hope for a stable economic existence and confidence in a revival of the tourism industry is unfortunately not in sight.
Madagascar is a fascinating island, one of the few travel destinations that are still almost “terra incognita.” It has become a less visited but very popular destination, despite the crisis last year where few canceled their trips, opting to postpone instead.
This is proof that Madagascar has not been forgotten, but has only become temporarily inaccessible.
Unfortunately, Madagascar has been cut off from the outside world for almost 300 days. For the first time in almost 20 years, I am aware that I live on an island.
I will continue to post a daily blog until flights are allowed again, hopefully before Easter 2021.
This way, Madagascar will not be forgotten on my site at least.
For 300 days, we have had no income or revenue, an absolute disaster that we have managed to cope with so far without having to lay off our close employees. I also organized a Crowdfunding to support freelance workers:
This helps keep them afloat every month and prevents them from having to sell their only source of income, their fleet of vehicles.
Some of the donations are also set aside for emergencies. For example, during Christmas, the house where my housekeeper’s children live burned down (Ambohimasoa).
Her mother and her own 2-year-old son are temporarily housed with neighbors. We are taking care of the immediate reconstruction of the house and providing basic necessities.
There is no risk of infection, and one can freely move around the entire island. Health authorities fear a new outbreak through the import of viruses via guests from Europe, hence the country remains hermetically sealed.
We wish all guests, drivers, and other participants in the tourism industry a much better year, and we hope to welcome guests back soon.
During the long months, the website has been significantly improved, with new offers in various areas and new blog posts explaining aspects that provide a better understanding of the offerings and travel possibilities.
We are also available daily via phone, Skype, WhatsApp, and email. Any inquiries will be answered within a few hours.
