The Antongil Bay and the Masoala Peninsula
The Antongil Bay and the Masoala Peninsula form one of the last remaining areas of the eastern rainforest, a dense and impenetrable, partially unexplored world that is home to endemic animal and plant species.

Launched in 1971, the UNESCO program “Man and the Biosphere” (MAB) promotes interdisciplinary research, education, and demonstration in the field of resource management.
It helps improve understanding of biophysical, socio-economic, and cultural factors affecting the environment and increase scientists’ involvement in decisions on more efficient resource use.
The Island of Roger
This small island in the middle of the Mananara River, 4 km from its mouth, is likely the is the only place in Madagascar where Aye-Aye lemurs can be easily observed in the wild.
The Island Roger is one of the two places (along with Palmarium in Ankanin’Nofy) where you can observe the very shy, rare, and nocturnal Aye Aye Lemurs in their natural habitat.
Necropolis of Andavakandrehy
The cave of Andavakandrehy in Ambalatrano (17 km south of Mananara), a sacred site inscribed in the cultural heritage, sinks 200 meters underground.
