PERFORMANCE PACT
The State commits to accompany the Private Sector in the implementation of the Private Sector Development Strategy (SDSP) in order to achieve the set objectives for 2040. These objectives include an annual economic growth of 7%, a contribution of the industrial sector representing 30% of the GDP, as well as a 15% increase in the formal employment rate in the active population, it is indicated. The performance pact, linking the State, Private Sector organizations, and International Partners, was signed during the Private Sector Conference dedicated to the SDSP on December 12, 2024.

TRAFFICKING OF PROTECTED SPECIES
The 757 last Pyxis arachnoides turtles, illegally exported to Thailand, arrived in Madagascar on Friday, according to the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MEDD). Upon arrival, they were taken care of by the MEDD and the Turtle Survival Alliance (TSA), before being transferred to the Eden Botanic Garden in Toliara, where they will undergo appropriate monitoring and treatment. The investigation into this case, which was revealed in May of this year, is still ongoing, the ministry said.

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) updated the rankings of nations in 3×3 Basketball on December 15. In the combined federations ranking, Madagascar ranks 47th globally (141.457 points), and 4th in Africa behind Uganda, Benin, and Algeria. For men, Madagascar is 49th (244.408 points) in the world ranking dominated by Serbia, and is 4th in Africa behind Benin, Uganda, and Nigeria. For women, Madagascar ranks 44th (81.872 points) in the global ranking dominated by China, and is 5th in Africa behind Uganda, Benin, Algeria, and Kenya. SWITZERLAND MADAGASCAR
Switzerland supports cocoa producers in Madagascar by providing expertise through training and innovation projects, according to the Swiss Embassy in Madagascar. Collaboration between Swiss researchers and local associations has enabled the implementation of sustainable agricultural techniques to improve crop resistance while preserving the quality of Malagasy cocoa. Solutions such as agroforestry are also proposed to restore soil fertility and guarantee stable production. This partnership strengthens Madagascar’s resilience to climate challenges while supporting the local economy, it was stated.

ARMS TRADE
To support Madagascar in its international obligations under the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), particularly with regard to the establishment of a national control list, a workshop on arms trade and dual-use goods control was opened this morning for a duration of four days. The meeting was inaugurated by Roland Kobia, Ambassador of the European Union, in the presence of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Armed Forces of Madagascar and the Gendarmerie Commander. It should be noted that the creation of the national control list is expected to be soon integrated into new legislation concerning the general regime of armaments. In an international context marked by numerous armed conflicts, arms trade control is a global concern, highlighted the Delegation of the European Union in Madagascar.

ANALAMAZOTRA NATIONAL PARK
35,600 visitors, of which 35% are nationals, have visited the Analamazaotra National Park since the beginning of the year until December 12, according to the Ministry of Tourism. The Analamazaotra National Park is known for its biodiversity and ecological importance.

ANTANANARIVO-TOAMASINA RAILWAY LINE
President Rajoelina announced the rehabilitation of the Antananarivo-Toamasina railway line. The State will find partners for the realization of this project, said the President, indicating that he is already in contact with three specialized companies in railway construction, including an Egyptian company and two Chinese companies. According to him, these companies will carry out the study of this complementary project to the Antananarivo-Toamasina Highway project, which is strategic for the transportation of goods and people.
