BACCALAUREATE 2024
218,359 candidates and candidates are registered for this year’s baccalaureate examination, an increase of 1.25% compared to the 2023 session. 207,097 are candidates from general education, 11,041 candidates from vocational and technical education, and 221 from technological education. 80,435 candidates are registered in Antananarivo. The exam will take place from July 22nd to 26th for the general baccalaureate and the first part of the technical baccalaureate. The exam will continue from July 29th to August 1st for the second part of the technical baccalaureate.

WAKE UP!
“Wake Up!”, the documentary film by Felana Rajaonarivelo, is part of the Official Selection of the Women’s Cinema Festival (Cinef) in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. The film, co-produced by Canal Plus Madagascar and Fireflies, tells the story of four women with disabilities. The Women’s Cinema Festival (Cinef) will take place from August 19 to 24, 2024 at the Palais du Peuple in Kinshasa. Initiated by filmmaker Clarisse Muvuba and supported by the Association of Congolese Women Filmmakers, the festival celebrates and highlights a woman’s ability to manage, create, undertake, and contribute to the industrialization of Congolese and African cinema. “Wake Up!” was also previously part of the official selection of the International Women’s Film Festival in Cotonou (FIFF 2024) earlier this year. RALLYE DU BOENY
Absent from the 2023 Madagascar Rally Championship calendar, the traditional “Rallye du Boeny” is making its grand comeback. It will take place on August 15, 16, and 17, 2024 in Mahajanga, as the 3rd round of the 2024 Madagascar Rally Championship. The duo Mathieu Andrianjafy – Andry Tahina Rakotomalala Andrianjafy won the last edition in 2022. WATERAID
WaterAid celebrates its 25th year of service in providing access to clean water, sanitation, and sustainable hygiene for the Malagasy population. An event will mark this anniversary on July 25th. WaterAid is an international non-profit organization that fights for clean water, decent toilets, and good hygiene to be normal for everyone, everywhere. AFRICAN CAUCUS 2024
A Malagasy delegation will participate in the meetings of the African Governors of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund. This African Caucus 2024 will be held from August 1st to August 3rd, 2024 at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja, Nigeria. The theme for this year is “Facilitating intra-African trade: catalyst for sustainable economic growth in Africa.” The African Caucus generally meets once a year, at the initiative of its President, to coordinate and harmonize the positions of the African Governors regarding the annual memorandum addressed to the IMF and the World Bank Group and presented during the Annual Meetings of these two institutions. SPORT
The UNESCO headquarters in Paris will host the “Sport changes the game” World Ministerial Conference on July 23 and 24, as part of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It will bring together ministers, high-level athletes, and sports organizations to discuss the power of sport as a driver of sustainable development. A Malagasy delegation will participate in the conference. The Action Plan for Sport and Gender Equality will be on the agenda for discussions. The Plan will support policymakers and sports practitioners in the design, implementation, and measurement of the impact of inclusive sports policies and programs. A multi-stakeholder forum will be held on July 23, focusing on the social return on investment in sports policies and programs. The panels will explore investment opportunities for individuals and systems, as well as innovative financial mechanisms such as social impact bonds. LAND CERTIFICATES
3,072 land certificates and 200 land titles were distributed over the weekend in the Rural Municipality of Mahavelona, Soavinandriana District. This distribution is part of the Massive Land Certification Operation (OCFM) supported by the CASEF project and financed by the World Bank. The World Food Programme (WFP) Madagascar announces that it has acquired three off-road vehicles called Sherps. Already used in several other regions around the world, these vehicles are designed to ensure that vital food supplies reach communities in the most difficult-to-access areas and under the most delicate circumstances, says WFP Madagascar. “The deployment of Sherps represents a major asset in WFP’s strategy for emergency preparedness in collaboration with the government,” explains WFP Madagascar. MATHIAS M’MADI
At 19 years old, Mathias M’Madi joins Spain. Baloncesto Morón Club announces the signing of the Malagasy international. Currently in the “Primera FEB”, equivalent to the second Spanish division, the club has great ambitions this year. Mathias M’Madi comes from the United States, where he played last season with the Seward County Saints in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). In one season, the Malagasy guard played 23 games, including 21 as a starter, and averaged 14.7 points, 4 rebounds per game, 2.5 assists per game, and 1.4 steals per game. Mathias M’Madi made a name for himself with the Malagasy national team during the FIBA U18 African Championship 2022, where he averaged 20.8 points per game.
