7-Day Vanilla Coast – From Ankify to Sambava

Day 1: The journey begins in Ankify

Whether you have already spent time on the perfume island of Nosy Be or are starting this tour fresh, your day begins with a morning departure from Ankify.

You will start by navigating a slightly challenging trail by car, but your experienced driver will do their best to make the journey as comfortable as possible for you. After a challenging day through a diverse and stunning landscape, you will arrive at Camp Tattersalli near Daraina in the late afternoon.

Your overnight stay is planned at the camp itself.

Day 2: Continuing to Sambava

Before you set off to Sambava, known as the capital of vanilla, a visit to the Bekaroaka Reserve is on the agenda.

There, you can observe various lemurs as well as exciting reptiles and amphibians up close.

To fully immerse yourself in the fascinating nature of this reserve and still have plenty of time for taking numerous photos, the drive to Sambava is scheduled for early afternoon.

In Sambava, you can look forward to a delicious dinner and a comfortable overnight stay in a selected hotel.

Day 3: Plantations and the city of Antalaha

On the third day, you can start by enjoying a leisurely breakfast, as the journey is scheduled to continue only in the late morning.

The first stop is a visit to exciting and extensive spice and vanilla plantations. Learn why the Vanilla Coast is called the Vanilla Coast and take a look at the fascinating cultivation of this uniquely exotic spice.

After lunch, the journey continues to Antalaha, where you can take an extensive sightseeing tour of the city and the surrounding area.

The car will then take you back to Sambava, where accommodation is also planned for the night.

Day 4: Heading to Andapa

If you wish, you can explore the surrounding area of Sambava today before driving up to the mountains to Andapa after lunch. There, you will not only be greeted by a spectacular view, but also by the Soaland Chalet, which will warmly welcome you.

Day 5: Visit to the Private Reserve of Antenetiambo

On this exciting Day, you will start your day with a delicious breakfast snack and head out early in the morning around six o'clock.

Your destination is the six kilometers away Matsobe, where the Private Reserve of Antenetiambo awaits you.

Here, you can embark on a day hike guided by the owners of the reserve themselves.

During this hike, you will have the opportunity to enjoy numerous insights into the nature of the East Coast and take in the diverse facets of the impressive landscape.

Afterwards, you will return to Andapa, where your overnight stay for the day is planned.

Day 6: Heading back to Sambava

Today, you will be traveling back to Sambava, the most important and significant hub for vanilla.

You will have the entire day at your disposal to choose the activity that suits your interests best.

For example, you could take a trip to the Holy Lake Antahomaro, home to numerous crocodiles.

Alternatively, you can visit one of the largest coconut plantations in the world or explore a vanilla processing plant in more detail.

In any case, there are plenty of opportunities to purchase the precious pods at attractive prices.

Day 7: Departure from Sambava

Today marks the end of the tour, and you will either say goodbye as you head towards Antananarivo, where the international airport awaits you, or you can continue the adventure with a direct connection to uncover even more of the fascinating secrets of Madagascar.
