Day 1: Arrival in Antananarivo
On the first day, your journey begins with your arrival in Madagascar. We will pick you up at Ivato Airport in the capital city of Antananarivo and take you to your overnight accommodation at Villa Sibylle. If you have any specific food and beverage requests for your arrival, please let us know in advance so we can take care of it for you. |
Day 2 from Antananarivo to Ankan’y Nofy
After the chaotic city of Antananarivo, you will head east for the first time, where the landscape becomes greener and the air noticeably warmer. Along the way, you can visit the Peyreiras Reserve (also known as Madagascar Exotique). You will traverse and leave behind the dense rainforest as you continue towards the east coast. The climate is humid and warm, with vegetation not as lush as in Andasibe, but the hills remain green year-round.
After Brickaville, a turnoff towards Manambato is only accessible by a 4x4 vehicle. At the enormous Rasoabe Lake, a motorboat awaits to ferry you across to the island of Ankan’ny Nofy. The boat ride will take about an hour until you arrive at the dock of the "Nest of Dreams". The bungalows there are somewhat secluded and only accessible by boat, but the diverse animal sightings possible during the day and night more than make up for the slight inconvenience of the location. |
Day 3 - Ankan'y Nofy and Surroundings
Explore the forest to observe a variety of lemurs up close. Indris are easier to spot here than in Andasibe National Park. An optional night boat tour offers a rare opportunity to see the elusive and nocturnal Aye-Aye lemurs. Overnight stay at Palmarium for a unique experience. |
Day 4 - From Ankan'y Nofy to Andasibe
Early in the morning, you will cross the lake to Manambato before driving west on the winding and well-maintained RN 2. Upon arriving near Andasibe National Park, you will check into your accommodation and have the opportunity to listen to the singing calls of the Indri lemurs, which can often be heard even within the hotel grounds. Overnight stay at the "Eulophiella Lodge or equivalent". |
Day 5 - Andasibe and Mitsinjo
After breakfast, we will visit the Mitsinjo Reserve. During the several-hour hike, you will have the chance to see the Indri-Indris and other highly rare animal and plant species. Upon returning to the hotel in the late morning, we will head to the "Vakona Zoo": on the famous Lemurs Island, which is accessed by boat, you will encounter numerous lemurs that were once taken from illegal captivity and "reintroduced" here. However, these animals have lost all fear and will literally jump on the visitors, so it is highly recommended to wear washable rain gear. The nearby forest is home to a large number of crocodiles, the rare "Fossa," and other zoological wonders of Madagascar, which can be explored on a 1-2 hour guided tour. Night walks in the rainforest are possible from the lodge. Overnight stay at the "Eulophiella Lodge." |
Day 6 - From Andasibe to Antsirabe
On the sixth day of your Madagascar tour, you will travel from Andasibe to Antsirabe via the capital city of Antananarivo. The journey will take you through the vibrant suburbs of the capital, then through Behenjy and Ambatolampy. You will stop for lunch in one of these two towns and enjoy a meal at a local restaurant. Afterward, you will continue on to Antsirabe, an important economic hub in Madagascar. The drive from Antananarivo to Antsirabe is approximately 170 kilometers and offers stunning landscapes along the way. Antsirabe itself is known for its charming colonial villas and European flair. You will stay at the Hotel Chambres du Voyageur, where you may have the chance to spot numerous chameleons and even radiated tortoises in the garden. |
Day 7 - Drive from Antsirabe to Ranomafana via Ambositra
On the seventh day of the journey, you will have the opportunity to visit an exciting reforestation project. Orange trees are cultivated in this project for reforestation purposes. We will then drive directly to the nearby Ambositra, a small town that has become known for artistic woodcarvings. After lunch, we head to the Ranomafana National Park. On the way there, you will once again witness breathtaking landscapes and increasingly lush vegetation. In the evening, enjoy a relaxing bath in a thermal swimming pool and spend the night at the Hotel des Thermes. |
Day 8- Visit to Ranomafana National Park
On the eighth day of your journey through Madagascar, the Ranomafana National Park is your destination. This park covers more than 40,000 hectares and is located around 1,300 meters above sea level. Numerous species of lemurs, insects, birds, frogs, and reptiles call the montane rainforest home, and with a bit of luck, you may encounter some particularly spectacular specimens. The specific activities of the day at Ranomafana National Park will depend on your individual preferences and physical condition. You will spend the night back at the Hotel des Thermes, where you can relax from the day's extraordinary adventures. |
Day 9 - Drive from Ranomafana to Ambalavao via Fianarantsoa
On day nine of your Madagascar journey, you will have the opportunity to enjoy various day trips and individual activities. During these three days, you will be staying exclusively in Sarondrano and the surrounding area, spending your nights at the wonderful Résidence Eden Lodge. Day 10 - From Ambalavao to Ranohira at Isalo National Park
Day ten kicks off with a hike in a private reserve called Anja Park. This three-hectare reserve is home to numerous lemurs, eagerly awaiting your visit with their playful antics. In addition to lemurs, Anja Park also offers a chance to discover various reptiles, burial caves, and spiritual gathering sites of the Betsileo people. After the hike, we continue our journey by car heading south. By late afternoon, we arrive in Ranohira, where we will stay overnight before exploring the Isalo National Park the next day. Our accommodation for the night is the luxurious Isalo Rock Lodge (4****) Isalo Rock Lodge. |
Day 11: Isalo National Park
On the eleventh day, you will visit one of the most famous national parks in Madagascar, the Isalo National Park. This park features a massive mountain range where granite and sandstone sculptures alternate with waterfalls and tropical vegetation. Covering over 80,000 hectares of land, the entire park offers a maximum of landscape diversity. The difficulty level and length of the tour through the park will be tailored to your personal preferences and physical abilities. After an exciting day trip, you will spend the night at the Isalo Rock Lodge (4****). |
Day 12- Drive from Ranohira to Ifaty via Ilakaka
On this day of the Madagascar journey, you bid farewell to Ranohira and continue southwards by car. Along the way, there are various opportunities for excursions: the sapphire mines of Ilakaka, the Zombitse Vohibasia National Park, or the giant baobab trees are just three examples. You will leave Tulear behind and then drive straight to Ifaty. You will stay at Hotel Belladonna, an excellent hotel that is still considered a well-kept secret on the island. |
Day 13: Ifaty and Surroundings
Take the opportunity to relax from the journey on the beach, go snorkeling/diving, take a boat trip, or even try your hand at kite-surfing, which is particularly popular here. The inland areas also have a lot to offer: the famous "Reniala Reserve" provides insights into the flora and fauna of the south, while the "Village des Tortues" showcases an interesting breeding and protection program for rare rays and spider tortoises. The cuisine here is naturally focused on the sea, with seafood lovers in for a treat. |
Day 14: Explore Ifaty and its Surroundings
Early in the morning, before dawn breaks, drive along the coast to Ifaty to visit the thorn and baobab forest. Enjoy a two-hour hike with plenty of opportunities to observe wildlife, including a surprising variety of birds, amphibians, boas, insects, and mammals in this dry habitat. In July and August, you may even spot humpback whales. Alternatively, take the day to relax harmoniously under the Tropic of Capricorn. Accommodation at Hotel Belladonna. |
Day 15: The Return Flight to Antananarivo
This day is filled with a sense of excitement: After the relaxing days in Ifaty, it's time to head back to Tulear and from there, take a direct flight to the capital city of Antananarivo. Depending on the time of day, you can explore the surrounding area, or head straight to the Villa Sybille hotel or an extraordinary restaurant with excellent dining options. |
Day 16- Stay in Antananarivo and Surroundings
On the second to last day of your exciting journey through Madagascar, the capital city of the island nation is on the agenda: In Antananarivo, you have numerous opportunities to go on a discovery tour. One example of a real attraction is the Lemurs Park, where you can observe many of the adorable animals up close. For this day, we have planned a Day Use at the Villa Sybille, where you can store your luggage and freshen up in the evening before we take you to the airport. |
