CUSTOMS SERVICES

Several resolutions have been issued by the President of the Republic, Andry Rajoelina, during yesterday’s Cabinet meeting, in order to improve customs services. Among them, for example, we note the upcoming appointment of an Airport Chief Controller, who will oversee the airport and will be replaced every six months. Other major resolutions have also been mentioned, such as the reduction of passenger waiting time at airports, which should not exceed one hour, from document verification to baggage retrieval, as well as expediting visa issuance. Regarding various complaints about agents committing acts of corruption at the airport, the President pointed out that two names are often mentioned. The individuals involved will be investigated, then suspended and sanctioned.

MADAGASCAR-GERMANY

Oliver Knoerich, the new Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Madagascar, officially presented the certified copies of his Letters of Credence to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rafaravavitafika Rasata, on July 24. During this meeting, the Minister highlighted the excellent cooperation relationship between Madagascar and Germany, emphasizing areas such as environmental protection, sustainable resource management, sustainable agriculture, and energy. Oliver Knoerich, on his part, expressed his commitment to strengthen and develop bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the framework of his new role.

The Multimedia Center of the National Bureau for Risk and Disaster Management (BNGRC) has recently received computer equipment from UNFPA. TERRITORIAL PLANNING

The official ceremony for the presentation of Communal Development Schemes (SAC) for the Atsimo-Atsinana region, encompassing the districts of Farafangana, Vondrozo, and Vangaindrano, took place yesterday in Farafangana. In collaboration with the AFAFI Sud project and the European Union, the Ministry of Decentralization and Territorial Planning (MDAT) distributed these schemes to 9 distinct communes. Possessing a Communal Development Scheme is crucial for each commune as it is a fundamental tool for territorial planning. It includes a map detailing the works to be carried out in the commune, the priorities to be followed, and, especially, a responsibility charter signed by the Regional Director. The event was also marked by the distribution of 500 land certificates and 9 Local Land Occupation Plans (PLOF) to the thirteen communes in the Farafangana district, thanks to the MDAT team present on-site.

FLAMINGO SEASON

The flamingo season is in full swing in Saint-Augustin, Tulear. HARMONY 2025 MISSION

The peace ark hospital ship of the People’s Liberation Army Navy of China (PLA Navy) will dock in Antsiranana for the Harmony 2025 mission. The medical teams on board will provide free diagnosis and care for common diseases to approximately 600 to 700 people per day, from July 26th to August 2nd, 2024. Experience sharing and training are also planned for the benefit of the agents and healthcare professionals in the city of Antsiranana, while joint simulation exercises for drowning rescue and medical evacuation with military doctors are also on the agenda.
