Cap Masoala and Nosy Behentona with Arol Lodge

Arol Lodge: Day Masoala and Nosy Behentona

The Masoala Peninsula is a must-visit destination for anyone planning a holiday in Madagascar and seeking a particularly nature-focused and authentic travel experience. Nowhere else on the island can you observe and discover flora and fauna in such a carefree and human-free environment as on the Masoala Peninsula.

In fact, the density of previously unknown animal and plant species is likely unmatched anywhere else on Madagascar, making this area one of the least explored yet most biodiverse regions on the island.

While the journey to Masoala may be a bit challenging at times, there are pockets of civilization harmoniously integrated with nature on the peninsula, offering you a spectacular base for your holiday in Madagascar.

The following offer is designed for tourists planning a visit to the Masoala Peninsula and looking for a short excursion with various beach experiences and sightseeing opportunities. This tour proposal serves as a basic package that can be customized to meet your specific needs.

As you browse through our various offerings, you'll see that we provide customization options for traveling in Madagascar, especially with our tailor-made itineraries.

To plan your dream trip, feel free to reach out to us for a consultation.

Day 1: Arrival in Masoala and Visit to the Rainforest

On the first day of this three-day excursion, you will first land in Maroantsetra, as traveling with a flight from Air Madagascar is the fastest and most convenient way to reach Masoala. From Maroantsetra, you will continue by fast motorboat to Ambodifohara. The journey takes about an hour and a half, and in Ambodifohara, you can store your luggage directly at your accommodation at the Arol Lodge. Afterwards, the first activities are already planned. You can choose between a first visit to the rainforest and some water sports in the Bay of Antongil. In the rainforest, you can admire many extraordinary animals such as Red Ruffed Lemurs, Helmet Vangas, and many other creatures at this time of day. In the crystal-clear waters of the Antongil Bay, on the other hand, you can observe numerous fish and other marine life. Alternatively, you can also take a walk along the east coast and get to know the village life of the local inhabitants. One of the co-founders of the Arol Lodge is from Germany and is happy to lead such a walk. Wander through plantations with clove trees, coconut palms, vanilla plants, and much more, and enjoy the peace and uniqueness of this special environment. To end this fascinating day, a night hike is planned. During this guided hike, you will encounter many nocturnal animals that have been hidden during the day. The day ends with an overnight stay at the Arol Lodge.

Day 2: From Arol Lodge to Nosy Behentona

The starting point for this trip is the Arol Lodge, which we highly recommend as a base camp for your stay on the Masoala Peninsula. The eco-friendly construction of the bungalows, all equipped with hot water and sanitary facilities, provides the ideal base for various excursions on the famous Madagascar peninsula. From here, you will embark on this 3-day trip, starting with a motorboat ride towards Masoala. After a short journey, you will enjoy a picnic on the pristine island of Nosy Behentona. There, you can visit a lighthouse that miraculously survived the various cyclones that regularly hit the island and the area. From here, you will have a breathtaking view of the island's lagoon. Next, you will continue through this lagoon to the Cap Masoala Marine Park. Here, you can swim, snorkel, or simply relax on the beach in the crystal-clear waters. Accommodation with full board is provided in Ambodilaitry at the camp.

Day 3: Enjoying the Sea at Cap Masoala

The third day of this short trip is also all about water. Enjoy the unique water landscape at Cap Masoala, relax from the stressful weeks leading up to your vacation in Madagascar, and take in the impressive scenery of the Cap. You will also be provided with full board today and stay overnight at the camp in Ambodilaitry.

Day 4: Back to Arol Lodge

On the fourth Day, say goodbye to the unforgettable water landscape at Cap Masoala after breakfast and return to Arol Lodge by motorboat. If you wish, you can still experience numerous other adventures here.

Day 5 - Leaving Masoala

On the fifth day, your adventure on the Masoala Peninsula usually comes to an end and you board a flight back to Antananarivo or wherever you desire. However, your excursion to the Masoala Peninsula can also be just the starting point for many more adventures on the island of Madagascar with our help. Let us help you discover countless more adventures on the island of Madagascar.
