Motorcycle Tour – The Gates of the Deep South 8 Days

Discover the Gates of the Deep South

The National Road 7 is to Madagascar what Route 66 is to the United States: from north to south and from east to west, it takes you to the heart of the Red Island.

From the lush green highlands to the desert plains of the south, you will ride your motorcycle through an incredible variety of landscapes.

On each stage, you will discover the many natural and cultural treasures that Madagascar has to offer: waterfalls and legendary lakes in the highlands, forest reserves, tea plantations, the Isalo and Ranomafana National Parks...

On the 1000 km journey towards the Great South, you will not miss any of the enchantments that Madagascar has in store for its most curious travelers.

Villa Sibylle is a private guesthouse located near the airport, surrounded by a tropical garden. Relax after your flight and enjoy your first dinner in Madagascar with an overnight stay.

Day 2: Antananarivo - Antsirabe

Day trip of 170 km

Embark on the first long and lively leg of the journey, giving you the opportunity to take the motorcycle for a spin and appreciate all its qualities.

Our escapade in the heart of the highlands continues towards the second largest city in the center of the island, Antsirabe.

Known as one of the agricultural and industrial production centers of the country, Antsirabe offers a landscape of plains and valleys crisscrossed by forests.

Founded in the 19th century by Norwegian missionaries, Antsirabe has a distinctly "European" feel compared to other cities in Madagascar, with its magnificent colonial villas and orderly urban planning.

In the hotel's garden, you will find numerous chameleons hiding in the trees and some radiated tortoises that can often be seen on a small island in the middle of a lake.

Day 3: Antsirabe-Ranomafana

Day trip: 220 km

Leaving the Antananarivo province and heading towards Fianarantsoa province.

As you descend in altitude, the vegetation becomes denser, soon you will pass through the montane rainforest and approach the city of Ranomafana, famous for its national park of the same name.

Relax in the thermal swimming pool with very warm water.

Day 4: Ranomafana - Fianarantsoa

Day trip of 60 km

After breakfast, you will make your way back to Fianarantsoa and its historic old town.

Just a few more kilometers and by the end of the day, you will discover the famous vineyards of Ambalavao. Fianarantsoa, literally the city where one learns the good, is known as the Malagasy capital of craftsmanship.

Day 5: Fianarantsoa - Ranohira

Travel distance of 280 km

As you gradually leave the highlands, you will discover an exceptional mountain range: the Isalo Massif. This spectacular site of 81,540 ha is completely serene and rich in secrets.

More than 400 species, most of them endemic, cover the vast savannah areas that you will explore with a specialized guide.

The small town of Ranohira, located at the gateway to the Isalo National Park, is primarily there to welcome tourists, researchers, and other explorers seeking discoveries in this unique place.

Day 6: Ranohira - Tulear

Day trip of about 240 km

The final leg of the road leading you to Tulear leaves behind the mountain ranges and reveals a dry and semi-desert landscape, the area of the famous Baobabs of Madagascar.

It takes you below the Tropic of Capricorn, to Tulear, the capital of the region.

The white sandy beaches and desert steppes offer you a panorama that stands out completely from the rest of the country.

A final invitation to adventure among the Baobab trees or to relax on the endless beaches.

7. Day: Tulear - Antananarivo (Domestic Flight)

Depending on the time of your flight to Antananarivo, you can visit the lively streets of Tulear and its colorful markets.

A vehicle will take you to the airport for your return flight to Tana, and we will greet you upon arrival in Antananarivo.

Overnight stay at Villa Sibylle

Of course, we can also arrange for an extension tour or a longer stay in Antananarivo as an option.

Day 8: Antananarivo (International Flight Departure)

If time allows, there are still plenty of opportunities to enjoy this last day in Madagascar, with the "Lemurs Park" located 22 km outside of Antananarivo being a particularly attractive option if you can't get enough of these cute animals. There are also plenty of other sights to see, and your guide will be happy to advise you!

In the evening, we will take you to the airport, with most flights departing after midnight. You will appreciate the opportunity of a Dayuse at the hotel, where you can prepare for your flight in peace.
